The Oil Cleansing Method

August 20, 2015

The Oil Cleansing Method (OCM) is not a new concept, it has been around for thousands of years.  In fact, before the widespread availability of soap, people in many cultures used oil to cleanse their skin.

OCM is based on the basic chemistry rule that "like dissolves like." When massaged into the skin, oils bind to surface impurities [pulling out dirt and dead skin cells without clogging pores] and allow them to be rinsed away leaving the skin clean, soft and hydrated.

The plant, fruit and vegetable oils used for the cleansing method also contain properties that treat acne or fight the effects of aging among other things – to improve the texture and appearance of your skin!

Please read below as Acne.org explains the oil cleansing method as follows:

“Fact: Oil dissolves oil. One of the most basic principles of chemistry is that “like dissolves like.” The best way to dissolve a non-polar solvent like sebum/oil, is by using another non-polar solvent similar in composition: Other oils. By using the right oils, you can cleanse your pores of dirt and bacteria naturally, gently and effectively, while replacing the dirty oil with beneficial ones extracted from natural botanicals, vegetables and fruit that heal, protect and nourish your skin. When done properly and consistently, the OCM can clear the skin from issues like oily skin, dry skin, sensitive skin, blackheads, whiteheads and other problems caused by mild to moderate acne–while leaving your skin healthy, balanced and properly moisturized.”

To cleanse with oil cleanser:

- Apply desired amount to a cotton pad or cotton ball, or the palm of your hand.  Massage onto your face in a circular motion

- Leave the oil on your face for several minutes

- Place a warm washcloth over your face (to steam the skin and open the pores).

- Gently wipe away any remaining oil

*There will be some oil left on your face to moisturize your skin

There is an adjustment period of about 1-2 weeks where your skin needs to detox and adjust to your new cleansing method.

Scentapy now offers a Makeup remover and oil skin cleanser containing the following:

CASTOR OIL:  Cleanses, Detoxifies, Moisturizes

Castor oil can cleanse the skin of dead skin cells that are clogging the sebaceous glands.  It breaks up oils that clog the glands and pores on the face.  Castor oil contains a compound called undercylenic acid, which can help to disinfect the skin and even kill bacteria that cause skin conditions such as acne.

JOJOBA OIL:  Fights Acne

Jojoba oil's similarity to sebum allows it to absorb easily and readily into your skin, making it a gentle, skin-softening moisturizer for all skin types.  It improves skin elasticity and suppleness, and contains natural Vitamin E.  Its non-greasy texture, light weight and anti-inflammatory properties make jojoba oil an ideal ingredient for treating acne-related skin problems.

RICE BRAN OIL:  Diminishes Aging

Rice Bran Oil contains high concentrations of Vitamin E which will help diminish the effects of aging and slow the formation of wrinkles.  Rice Bran Oil absorbs quickly in the skin.

TEA TREE OIL:  Fights Acne, Soothes skin

Tea Tree is an excellent oil to help fight and treat acne.  The anti-viral, anti-fungal and antibacterial properties of Tea Tree oil will disinfect pores, dry out whiteheads and blackheads and soothe the skin.  Tea Tree is also used to treat wounds, cuts, abrasions, psoriasis, ringworm and many other conditions
